There are five acknowledged stages of grief.
Denial and Isolation: Like when you stop answering phone calls for 8 months and seeing one face in a bar sends you reeling. Anger: Like when you steal a car drive it to a park leave the keys and walk away. Bargaining: There are no tradeoffs for a lifetime of loss. Depression: Like when you sleep all day because nothing good comes from waking life.

Sometimes you can get stuck in one of these stages. Sometimes your boyfriend makes an unrelated comment and you cry all night long because nobody ever loved you enough. Stuck in stages.

I forgot to mention. The last stage, of course, is acceptance.
